It’s almost race day! One more day and it’s Indy time! One of the most exciting races of the year. The mid-west really delivers when it comes to this race. Typically one of the largest turn outs for Supercross. I can’t imagine this year being any different. Every round except for Birmingham has had record attendance records. I’m fired up for Indy. This has been a race I usually do not miss, and this year won’t be any different. I can’t wait to see who I run into at the Slippery Noodle before the race and will undoubtedly be at The Whistle Stop for shots after the race.
Indy isn’t just great because the city and the fans are amazing. It also generates some of the best, and unique racing of the season. A tight floor with a tight layout coupled with that real soft mid-west dirt keeps things interesting. Last year we got to see Kenny win his first and only race of the season, and his first since the 2022 season opener. Webb is always a stud in Indy. I will never forget him jumping from a single to the EXIT of a bowl turn to pass Tomac late in the 2019 race. (That was the exact moment it was clear Webb was THE GUY in ’19.) Tomac always seems to struggle here. Whether it’s his “back” like last season, or just getting waxed by Kenny 3 times in ’21, this is not Eli’s house.
The Jett and those 3 are who I look to be towards the front this week. I hope Sexton is, but his raw speed on the KTM is a concern of mine. Anderson tends to be lackluster on softer dirt and Plessinger’s starts aren’t good enough for a triple crown. Like most weekends, how the dirt breaks down may be the most important part here. This being a triple crown will be very interesting on the dirt and track. If it’s soft enough for one line down the center of the whoops, starts are going to be crucial here. No chance for the grate to be wet, Jett and the HRC will be locked in. Everyone else could be a crap shoot moto to moto.
3 starts, we get 3 starts this weekend. We get 3 250 East Coast round starts this weekend! 2 out of 4 rounds this year there has been major carnage off of the 250 East starts. And we get 3 of them!! This class is awesome so far. It has created a lot of bench racing and discussions. The championship “favorite” has changed every single week. Tom is the guy now and he has won 2 straight after getting his first career podium the week before that. Deegan won that round and is looking for a big bounce back. Injuries have hurt his speed this far, and trying to send it to make-up it for it has proven troublesome. Sackadoo has been a tear in Supercross since last season. Until he got hurt, he was the guy behind Jett in 2023. Other than his balls out ride, he has had 3 solid 2nd places again. The last one in the hunt in my opinion is Hammacker. Dude cannot avoid drama. But he is also so fast. He has secretly been battling for fastest qualifier each week, making late moto charges, and has 2 podiums in a row. Unfortunately for everyone here, consistency is key to the triple crown. Not just starts for these guys but navigating this track too. This just may be a night where Anstie rebounds after a bike failure made him lose the red plate last weekend.
I can’t wait to watch the triple crown, get wasted downtown and piss some civilians off on bird scooters. This is what Supercross is all about! There is nothing like walking into the dome after 6 or 9 too many beers and being smacked in the nose holes with race fuel fumes. I love it and cannot wait to see what happens. Out on the town and at the track, I’m sure it’ll be interesting and I will run into characters. Cheers, we’ll see ya after Indy, hopefully!
